The Basque Country deserves its own place in the European Union. This is our claim today here in the European Parliament, the centre of the democracy of 460 million inhabitants. Our goal is to be democratically active part of the European construction. "Euzkadi-Europa" was the slogan of our first party’s day in 1930s and still expresses our dream nowadays. Last September we constituted the "Young Democrats for Europe" organisation in Vilnius along with youth movements from Italy, France, San Marino, Cyprus, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. We want to be equal and free in the Europe of the Nations.

In contrast, today is the anniversary of the Spanish Constitution, which nullifies our being. Once and again Spain and France negate the existence of a National reality which has its own culture, language and being. Europe is expanding outwards but it’s afraid of inbound plurality and realities: Scotland, Catalonia, Flanders, Kosovo, Montenegro, etc. many of us want to take part in the European Union in another way.

The Basque Country is right to carry out its right to be a new State Member of the European Union.
